Migrant Worker Problems

LAF represents migrant and seasonal agricultural workers and nursery workers and their families throughout Illinois.  LAF conducts outreach from satellite offices around the state during the growing season.  LAF helps workers obtain emergency Food Stamps; answers questions about immigration, taxes, Social Security records, etc.; and refers people to workers’ compensation attorneys.  LAF handles wage and hour claims under the Fair Labor Standards Act; claims about working conditions, housing, field sanitation, and misrepresentations of the working arrangement under the Agricultural and Seasonal Workers Protection Act; and similar claims under state worker protection statutes.

LAF’s staff is bilingual (English-Spanish) and can be reached throughout the year via a toll-free telephone number.
