For over 40 years, LAF (Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago) has provided free legal services to low-income residents and seniors in Cook County. We believe LAF can most effectively continue to meet the needs of people living in poverty in every community in Cook County by relocating our current four offices to one central location in downtown Chicago, easily accessible by public transportation. Effective Tuesday, December 6, we will be at 120 S. LaSalle Street, Suite 900, Chicago, Illinois, 60603-3425. Our central telephone number will continue to be 312-341-1070. Clients seeking legal help can call this number and select the menu option that best fits their legal problem. Service providers should select the menu option for “lawyers, judges, social workers or other service providers” to bypass the legal help menu. If you or your staffs have any concerns about access to our services, please contact Cynthia Sadkin, Director of Client and Community Services at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

We are also excited to announce the creation of LAF’s Community Engagement Unit (CEU), with a staff of 8 people dedicated to outreach and to working with community organizations throughout our service area. We believe that with mobile technology, we can do a better job of offering our services throughout Cook County than ever before. In fact, between August and October, we participated in more than 100 community events across the County, including Evanston, Des Plaines, Richton Park, Matteson, Bridgeview and Berwyn. CEU can be contacted at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .We are committed to strengthening our ties with long-time partners, and to developing new relationships and collaborations with groups we haven’t worked with before.

With the support of LAF’s five Practice Groups (Children & Families, Consumer, Housing, Immigrant & Worker’s Rights, and Public Benefits), CEU offers presentations and training to clients, community based organizations, and to service providers on a variety of legal issues, coordinates community legal clinics, and is poised to respond to new legal issues as they emerge within communities.

LAF has a long and strong history of providing high-quality, free legal services to low income and disadvantaged people. We are more committed than ever to making equal justice a reality for our clients, and we look forward to working with you toward our shared goals of strengthening communities and helping individuals and families in need.

Sincerely,

Diana White
Executive Director
