Current Volunteer Opportunities

LAF is always in need of volunteers for our many projects. Our work spans five practice areas: Children and Families, keeping children and families safe and stable; Consumer, preventing predatory practices; Housing, protecting access to housing for our clients; Public Benefits, maximizing income and resources, and Immigrant and Worker Rights. Whether you are recently retired and looking for an ongoing commitment, or have only a few hours to give, we'd love to talk about the ways your skills and resources can help low income individuals and seniors across Cook County. At the moment, our most pressing needs for volunteers include:

Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago, Volunteers for Federal Court Help Desk – Chicago, IL

The Legal Assistance Foundation of Metropolitan Chicago runs a program in downtown Chicago where we provide assistance to pro se litigants in federal court. We need volunteers to assist the two part time attorneys who staff the desk. Volunteers will work in a convenient downtown location, interview and assist clients in a structured setting, and will receive on-site training and mentoring from experienced staff attorneys. Volunteers MUST be licensed to practice law in Illinois, have some federal court experience, some knowledge of employment discrimination law, sufficient patience to explain law and procedure to clients, and at least one free three hour period per month. For more information, call Catherine Caporusso or Deanne Medina at (312) 435-5580 or email them at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it and This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
